Karen O'Shaughnessy

Karen O'Shaughnessy has been capturing images for most of her adult life. She studied with Ansel Adams, Jerry Uselmann, Ruth Bernard and Lucien Clergue in the early 1980's. From 1983 until 1987, she assisted Lucien Clergue from Arles, France when he worked in the Southwest of the United States. In the last few years she has studied with Joyce Tennyson, Bob Krist and David Alan Harvey.
Karen has lived in Mexico for over twenty years and has a unique understanding of the country and that is reflected in her images. The Series, "El Arte de Mis Sueños" demonstrates the Baroque Art of Bullfighting on horseback. The Fiesta Brava has been a passion for Karen for many years in Mexico, Spain and Portugal.
The Series entitled "Lusitano Dreams" shows the power, rhythm and beauty of the horse in the ageless land of the Lusitano horse, Portugal.
For the past six years, Karen has been in charge of advertising and web page design for the Cuadra San Francisco Equestrian Center in Los Cabos, Mexico. www.loscaboshorses.com Her images can be found in many private collections in Los Cabos, Denver, San Diego, Austin and in Midland, Texas.
Her images have been in many Equestrian and Travel Publications in both Mexico and the United States and her photo of Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza graced the cover of "Caballos Y Agave" magazine number 17, 2007.
She searches for thetrue essence of the object sh photographs and communicates that to the viewer. Wheather it is a tulip or bullfighter, horse or person, she can find its soul. Photography is the passion that awakens her from dreams and becons her to distill the images to reveal their spirit. Karen believes this is an everyday occourence that one must not take for granted and once it's done, it will always be.
Karen had images from the "El Arte de Mis Sueños" series in Art Expo New York in March 2007 and images from "Lusitano Dreams" series in Art Expo Las Vegas in September 2007. Images from Dia de Muertos are currently hung in Pez Gordo Gallery in San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Karen currently lives full time in Los Cabos, Mexico.
